Over 400 Women Apply for Property Ownership Rights in Delhi Under PM UDAY Scheme: LG Office

New Delhi: In a landmark show of women’s empowerment, more than 400 women stepped forward to claim legal ownership of their homes in Delhi’s unauthorised colonies under the PM UDAY scheme on International Women’s Day, the office of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena announced.

Across 10 specially organised camps held in different parts of the city, a total of 432 women submitted applications for ownership rights to their properties in unauthorised colonies. Of these, 285 applications were successfully resolved, and 101 women were handed their official ownership documents on the same day

What Is PM UDAY?

PM UDAY — short for Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana — is a flagship Central Government initiative designed to grant legal property rights to residents living in Delhi’s informal settlements. The PM UDAY Yojana was launched on October 29, 2019, with the purpose of conferring ownership rights to approximately 40 lakh people residing in unauthorised colonies, implemented through the Delhi Development Authority (DDA)

The scheme covers residents of 1,731 notified unauthorised colonies in Delhi, and ownership rights are granted under the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Unauthorised Colonies) Regulations, 2019.

How to Apply: DDA PM UDAY Website & Registration

Residents wishing to secure their ownership rights can do so through the official DDA PM UDAY website. To apply under the DDA PM UDAY portal, residents must register their property online, submit required documents such as a GPA (General Power of Attorney), Agreement to Sell, or possession letter, and attend processing camps organised by DDA for verification, GIS mapping, and registration. Once approved, applicants receive a legal conveyance deed or authorization slip, which can be used for further purposes such as securing loans.

Benefits of PM UDAY for Property Owners

Securing legal ownership of properties under PM UDAY allows residents to freely buy and sell properties, apply for bank loans, and get building plans approved for structural modifications. The Patriot: For women in particular, this translates into significant financial independence and long-term economic security.

Women’s property rights are closely linked to better health, education, and economic outcomes. Studies show that when women own property, they are more likely to invest in their families, improving household nutrition, education, and overall welfare

Record-Breaking Participation on Women’s Day

The LG’s office took to social media platform X to share the milestone, calling it an “unprecedented success.” The post stated that the PM UDAY camps set new records, with the high turnout reflecting growing awareness among women residents of Delhi’s unauthorised colonies about their right to legal property ownership.

The inclusion of women in the property rights process is a crucial step in ensuring gender equality and social stability, and the PM UDAY initiative aligns with broader global efforts to promote women’s land rights.

PM UDAY Scheme: Overall Progress

As of now, more than 1.27 lakh applications have been received under the DDA PM UDAY scheme, and over 29,000 people have received an Agreement to Sell. While progress has been substantial, advocates continue to push for faster processing of pending applications.

The success of the Women’s Day camps under PM UDAY demonstrates both the scheme’s reach and the rising demand among Delhi’s residents — especially women — for formalised, legally recognised property ownership.
